Why is there so much hype around the Super Bowl?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you’d have noticed the excitement brewing around this season’s Super Bowl LX on Sunday, February 8. People from the world of business will be taking the Monday off work, sports bars will be packed full of fans, and celebrities will be in attendance at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. It’s a massive event.

However, while many people regard this season’s clash between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks as the greatest show on Earth, millions of others don’t necessarily understand the hype surrounding it. In fact, no matter who’s playing, the Super Bowl always tends to hog the limelight, particularly in the United States of America, given the popularity of the sport.

With millions of people around the world also tuning in for the NFL’s annual championship game, below we highlight some key reasons why fans are captivated by the event, with many thinking carefully about their fantasy picks, assessing DraftKings NFL betting lines before backing a potential winner of the Vince Lombardi Trophy, and hosting massive parties filled with scrumptious grub. Make no mistake about it, for huge populations of people, the Super Bowl is unbeatable.

The winner is crowned

After all the ups and downs that occur during the regular season, the Super Bowl is the competition’s climax. What has come before doesn’t really matter anymore, as two behemoth franchises like the Seahawks and the Patriots go to war for one of the sporting world’s most prestigious prizes. There’s no series of games or second legs to factor in here, with this single-game format creating a spectacle like no other.

Pressure makes diamonds

Given what’s at stake for the two NFL teams on the day, the players themselves are under huge amounts of pressure. Sometimes, players rise to the occasion and become heroes forever, while we’ve also seen a number of professionals crumble on one of the biggest sporting stages of them all. The ruthless nature of the sport means there’s no hiding on the day, with these high-earning players simply having to step up and deliver the goods in the most challenging of occasions.

It’s part of the culture

Perhaps one of the main reasons why people base an entire day around the Super Bowl is simply because it’s a huge cultural event. Even people who don’t have an NFL team or an interest in American football watch it, with this cultural occasion transcending the sport and drawing all types of people in. Not only do viewers enjoy the bright lights and halftime commercials, but it’s an entertaining all-around spectacle that brings communities together and creates memories.

The Super Bowl also comes with a number of other forms of entertainment alongside the football action on the field. For instance, Green Day is starting the pre-game festivities off this season for Super Bowl LX, while Bad Bunny is making history by being the first male Latin American artist to headline the halftime show. Additionally, people enjoy watching the aforementioned commercials, and there are always celebrities in attendance. Essentially, the fear of missing out is genuine here.

Marketing overload

Another key reason why people simply can’t escape the Super Bowl is due to the clever marketing campaigns that draw them in ahead of the occasion. This not only creates a huge buzz around the event, but it makes it seem unmissable. As such, from billboards to television commercials, people simply don’t want to miss what is billed as one of the biggest events ever. Put simply, there isn’t anything quite like it.
