Is Your Business As Secure As You Think It Is?

If you really asked yourself, would you say your business is as secure as it could be? Maybe, maybe not – it’s a difficult question to answer. And while you know the importance of ignoring phishing links in emails, you might not have patched your CRM software up to the latest version yet!

And for a lot of small business owners, it’s this sense of 50/50 when it comes to business security that can be killer. You’re acting in a safe and sensible way, but there are still gaps in your security that can be exploited.

You need to make sure you cover these – and to do that, you need to identify them. Because it’s not just your website you have to protect against attack. Every facet of your business will need protection of some kind. Here’s a few to think about.

Who’s Taking Care of Your Network?

Do you have dedicated IT support taking care of your network, servers, cloud storage, and overall digital infrastructure? If not, your entire system could be one blue screen away from going down and never coming back again.

Even if you know about IT yourself, and you’ve been able to keep things working thus far, you can’t be sure when an attack or glitch might tank your network.

As such, you need to have IT professionals at work, protecting your digital needs on an ongoing basis. And while you don’t need to hire an IT team to work in-house, you will need some kind of remote support that’s available whenever you need them.

What Kind of View Do You Have?

Do you have a CCTV system? As a small business, you might not feel you really need one. But do you have any cameras set up at all? If not, that’s the first step.

You need to know what’s going on even when you aren’t there. This both protects your company against intruders, but it also serves in cases of employee misconduct as well.

It’s best to have a full video management system in place across your business, but top priority needs to go to your entrance and exit ways. Make sure you see who’s coming in and out, and can match access attempts to the person on the screen in front of you.

How Do You Log in?

Do you just tap in a password and go? Or do you have a stricter, two factor log in in operation? The latter is always better for, for both personal and business devices.

If you have to authenticate the log in attempt using another device, where a private, one time use code has been sent, anyone trying to get in without the right access will have a much harder time. After all, they’ll need to hold your actual devices to get anywhere!

Making your business more secure should always be top of your priority list. So, double check the risk areas above and see where you might be falling down.
