6 Movies to Watch on Hulu That Are About Life-Lessons

If you’re looking to watch a movie that has life-lessons on Hulu, you’re in luck. We’ve compiled a list of seven movies that are on the service and will be sure to teach you a thing or two. However, if you are anywhere outside USA like if you want to watch Hulu in South Africa, Malaysia, Australia or anywhere else you will need a VPN.

Akira

When it comes to animated movies, Katsuhiro Otomo’s Akira is the gold standard. It’s trippy, well-made, and a little bit odd. The story is a little less about cute creatures than it is about a gang of teens squaring off against an evil force, but the end result is still impressive.

The best part is that you can watch Akira on Hulu, with English dub, if you’re willing to pay a few bucks. It’s a great example of how this streaming service has gotten a foothold in the anime world, and the quality of its programming has gotten even better as the years have gone by.

Another Round

One of the most interesting films I have ever seen, Another Round is a surprisingly well-acted and thought-provoking ode to the perks of working in the education sector. Using a fictional scenario, four high school teachers get the boozy itch and embark on a round of drinking in an attempt to improve their lives. It’s not a new concept by any means, but this is the first time I’ve seen it played out in a movie. With an impressive cast including Mads Mikkelsen, Lars Ranthe, Thomas Bo Larsen, and Magnus Millang, Another Round is a worthwhile watch. You can see it for free today on Hulu.

127 Hours

127 Hours is the story of a mountain climber trapped in a canyon in Utah. The climber, Aron Ralston, lives to tell the tale after surviving a gruesome death. In the film, Ralston is forced to cut off his arm to get out of the canyon. However, he is able to keep his body alive with his survival mindset.

Using a hand-held video camera, Ralston documented his journey. This footage was then edited and put into a film. It is remarkably true to the real life events. As a result, the film has won the Audience Award and the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival.

Won’t You Be My Neighbor?

Won’t You Be My Neighbor is a documentary about Fred Rogers. The film explores the life of this great American educator, singer, actor, and writer. It is directed by Morgan Neville, who won an Academy Award for his previous documentary, Twenty Feet From Stardom.

This documentary will have its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. HBO will also broadcast it. Currently, the film is available for rent and purchase through HBO GO and HBO On Demand.

For those who may not be familiar with the work of Fred Rogers, the show was a public television program that focused on teaching children to be kind to others, deal with fear, and feel good about themselves. It was a different kind of children’s program than the other ones that were being broadcast at the time.

Fighting with My Family

Whether you’re looking for a light-hearted comedy or an educational look into life’s most noble virtues, Hulu has a great collection of films to choose from. In fact, there are plenty of movies to watch on Hulu that can’t be found anywhere else. Here are seven of the best.

First up, there’s the Three Identical Strangers. It’s a Hulu documentary that tells the story of identical triplets born into different families who reunite years later in New York. Aside from the fact that it’s a very cute movie, it’s also the first film to ever be nominated for a major Academy Award in the animation category.

I Am Not Your Negro

I Am Not Your Negro is a cinematic celebration of James Baldwin, whose life and works we’re all familiar with. But the film is also a reminder that we’re still a long way from where we need to be. Featuring a stellar cast and innovative visuals, this satirical look at black power reveals that while there’s progress being made, the fight is far from over.

The film, directed by Raoul Peck, draws heavily from Baldwin’s bestselling novel No Name in the Street. It features a clever narrative slant that uses the FBI’s own memo to account for one of Baldwin’s more interesting aspects.

What makes I Am Not Your Negro an engaging watch is its ability to blend in-depth research with a dash of entertainment. It features an enlightening look at the life and work of renowned writer, poet, and activist James Baldwin. A series of television appearances and published works are used to create a clever and engaging story.
