How to Implement Recruitment Strategies That Work

For every recruiter, there’s one primary fear: turnover. And for good reason. The national turnover rate is almost 50% in most cases.

HR is a big cost for most companies since most employees don’t last the year. As such, the hiring process can be tricky when knowing who is worth onboarding. Having good recruitment strategies can make a difference in keeping turnover low.

But in a world of LinkedIn pap and TED talk nonsense, it’s hard to know which recruiting ideas are actually effective. If you’ve been struggling with creating a long-lasting recruiting strategy, you’ve come to the right place. Let’s discuss how you can make yours more effective.

Use Recruitment Strategies That Treat Employees Like Human Beings

That may come as a shock to some. You always treat your employees like human beings, you might be saying. But what we’re really talking about is treating employees with respect and dignity.

Let’s be honest, most employers fail miserably in this regard. They make employees spend hours completing a tricky hiring process. They ask absurd questions or have them do irrelevant tasks.

In short, treat employees as you would want to be treated. Don’t waste their time. Use activities that reflect real job responsibilities.

Further, treat them well on the job. Raise their pay in accordance with inflation and give them yearly bonuses. Make them want to stay, and they’ll make you a lot of money.

Consider recruitment process outsourcing so professionals can handle this. The hiring process timeline is much faster when experts take the wheel.

Hire Via References or Social Media

Raise your hand if this is you: you blast random profiles on LinkedIn with job adverts. You flood Indeed with the same posting week after week. Understandably, you only get random applications from people who may not even be qualified.

This isn’t just inefficient, but it wastes your time later on. It’s much better to find people who are really a good match.

For starters, consider an employee referral program. Reward employees for recommending friends or acquaintances.

Use social media to find the people in your industry. Then you’ll get better matches who apply for your job posting.

Be Realistic About Job Requirements

Many recruiters love to demand experience for jobs that don’t need it. It’s commonplace for many entry-level jobs to expect their employees to have five years of experience! When employees see this, it turns them off from ever applying to you.

Instead, be realistic. Unless the experience is absolutely vital, just add it as a recommendation. Don’t demand the best performance unless the pay matches, too.

Start Recruiting Now

Recruitment strategies often use tired old tactics from the 1950s. But it’s 2023, and hiring employees has changed a lot since then. Build a recruitment strategy based on current techniques so you can hire the best people.
