Let’s Clear This Up
Let’s start here: our kids’ ministry is not a babysitting service.
It’s not where we drop off the littles so the “real” church can happen in the sanctuary. It’s not a holding area with goldfish crackers and a Bible coloring page. And it’s not Plan B while the adults worship.
At The City Church Batavia, we believe kids don’t get a junior Holy Spirit. They get the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead. The same Spirit that moves in worship, speaks through the Word, and brings people to their knees in awe.
That means our kids’ ministry isn’t just childcare, it’s church. Real, powerful, life-shaping church.
The Holy Spirit Doesn’t Wait for Adulthood
I’ve seen it with my own eyes. A seven-year-old with tears in their eyes during worship. A fourth grader praying over a friend with bold, beautiful faith. A child declaring God’s promises over their family, with no hint of hesitation.
Why? Because the Holy Spirit doesn’t wait until kids turn 18. He’s moving in them now. He’s dwelling in them now.
We need to stop underestimating what God can do through our children. We’re not preparing them to be the church someday, they are the church today.
Not Entertainment—Encounter
Our kids’ team doesn’t come in just to “watch the kids.” They come prayed up, prepared, and fully expecting God to move.
Every lesson is written with intentionality. Every worship set is chosen to stir hearts, not just fill time. Every team member knows their role is sacred.
Yes, we play games. Yes, we laugh a lot. But every moment is rooted in a bigger purpose: encounter.
We want every child to walk away knowing that God loves them, speaks to them, and has a plan for them.
Kids Can Go Deep
One of the biggest lies we’ve believed in church culture is that kids can’t go deep.
But I’ve seen kids ask questions about God’s character that challenge me. I’ve heard kids talk about forgiveness, about hearing God’s voice, about wrestling with doubt, and they’re not playing around.
If we treat kids’ ministry like fluff, that’s what we’ll get. But when we give kids real truth, they rise to it.
At The City Church Batavia, we teach our kids the full gospel—who God is, how He moves, and what it means to follow Him. Not someday. Now.
It Starts with Us
Here’s the part we don’t talk about enough: kids’ ministry reflects how we, the adults, view children.
Do we see them as noisy distractions, or as full participants in the kingdom of God?
Do we send them off so we can have “real church,” or do we bless them as fellow believers?
When Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me,” He wasn’t being poetic. He was being prophetic.
If we’re serious about being a church that reflects Jesus, then we need to take children seriously, not as accessories to our faith, but as leaders in their own right.
Raising Disciples, Not Just Attendees
Our goal isn’t to keep kids busy. Our goal is to make disciples.
That means:
- Teaching them to worship, not just watch.
- Helping them memorize Scripture and apply it.
- Creating space for them to pray, lead, and minister to each other.
We want them to grow up knowing church isn’t just a place they go, it’s who they are.
We’ve seen kids lead worship. We’ve seen them share testimonies. We’ve seen them stir revival in their schools just by living out what they’re learning on Sundays.
And it starts with a church that believes they’re capable.
What Parents Need to Know
If you’re a parent reading this, here’s what I want you to know:
Your kids are not just “taken care of” at church. They are seen, loved, challenged, and equipped.
You’re not just getting a break, you’re partnering with a team that’s investing in your child’s soul.
So lean in. Ask what they learned. Pray over the verses they’re memorizing. Worship together at home. Let your child’s faith stretch your own.
And thank the leaders who show up week after week with hearts full of purpose. They’re not volunteers, they’re ministers.
This Is the Church
At The City Church Batavia, we refuse to separate our children from the move of God. We want revival in every room, including the one with building blocks and snack cups.
We’re raising up worshipers. Preachers. Intercessors. Kingdom carriers.
And it starts now.
So the next time someone asks if kids’ ministry is “just childcare,” you can smile and say,
“Nope. It’s church.”
And if you listen closely from the hallway, you just might hear it:
Little voices, worshiping with big faith.
The sound of heaven, one child at a time.
